David E. Scharff, MD, is Director and co-founder, International Psychotherapy Institute, which promotes the practice of high quality psychotherapy, and trains psychotherapists from around the US and overseas. His book (with Jill Savege Scharff), Tuning the Therapeutic Instrument, details a revolutionary approach to psychotherapy education. He co-edited The Future of Prejudice, which examines the origins of conflict rooted in malignant prejudice. Dr. Scharff is Vice-President, International Association for Couple and Family Psychoanalysis; Clinical Professor of Psychiatry, Georgetown University and the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences; Teaching Analyst, Washington Psychoanalytic Institute; former president, American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists; member, American and International Psychoanalytic Associations. His more than twenty books and many articles focus on the practice of psychotherapy with individuals, couples and families, sexual development, and the history of psychoanalysis. He has taught in Europe, South and Central America, Asia, Australia and New Zealand.
