John R. Seffrin, PhD, is the CEO of the world’s largest voluntary health organization devoted to fighting cancer – the American Cancer Society. During his 17-year tenure, he has transformed the Society into one of the world’s most progressive public health organizations, with more than a billion dollars in resources to save lives. He also serves as CEO of the Society’s advocacy affiliate, the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network. Dr. Seffrin is past president of the International Union Against Cancer and past chair of the Independent Sector Board. A charter member of C-Change, he also led the creation of the National Center for Tobacco-Free Kids, serving as its initial board chair. He was an appointee to the National Cancer Policy Board and co-chair of the National Cancer Legislation Advisory Committee. A preeminent leader of the international tobacco control movement, Dr. Seffrin is also an internationally esteemed speaker and prolific author.
