John Dittmer

John Dittmer is Professor Emeritus of History at DePauw University. He has also taught at Brown University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. From 1967 to1979, he was a member of the history faculty at Tougaloo, a historically black college in Mississippi. He is the author of “Black Georgia in The Progressive Era” and “Local People: The Struggle for Civil Rights in Mississippi,” which received the Bancroft Prize and the Lillian Smith Book Award for Nonfiction. His latest book, published this spring by Bloomsbury Press, is “The Good Doctors: The Medical Committee for Human Rights and The Struggle for Social Justice in Health Care.”
